The first Axel store opened in Aarhus in 1993; its ambition to be a place where men could dress themselves in style with exclusive, designer menswear from leading fashion houses from around the world. The concept of bringing traditional and high fashion designer menswear from the world’s metropolises and selling them under one roof proved popular among local men. Fifteen years later, the Aarhus store on the corner of Sct. Clemens Stræde and Maren Smeds Gyde, was joined by another Axel store, this one located in the centre of Copenhagen, on the corner of Gammel Mønt.
Axel sells all types of menswear. Minimalist, traditional, mainstream and high fashion design styles are represented by an exclusive range, where style and class are part of the store’s DNA. This has made the Danish fashion industry take notice, making Axel well known and one of a kind. Axel is thus one of the few menswear stores in Denmark that can provide such a wide selection of exclusive and international designer menswear, including Paul Smith, Kenzo, Moncler and Helmut Lang. All are design labels that are influenced in their own way by the international fashion scene. Not just any store is allowed to sell their products, and to do so, is a mark of a store’s quality. This shows that Axel is among the very elite of menswear stores. In 2010, Axel was named by aoa.dk as the menswear store of the year in Aarhus. Further proof, if any was needed, of Axel’s high quality.
